Since I've been living in Japan for quite a long time, and teaching for 30 years. I can understand Japanese which has helped me in my teaching. I believe that students should feel relaxed and enjoy learning a language. So if I can explain a word or phrase in Japanese, it helps them get a grasp of the meaning and quickly instead of searching the dictionary each time. And overcome shyness!
